As humans, being liked, popular and sought after is a natural desire inherent in each of us. This is why deodorants, toothpastes, gym memberships and fancy cars sell at astronomical rates. This is also why mints are so popular and hardly a day goes by without someone at work, school or in public asking you “do you have some gum?” You already know what that person may be trying to curb or correct: Bad Breath. (It also relieves you this person didn’t offer you some!)

I wrote once in an article in my blog titled “You’ve lost the weight but how clean are you on the inside?” that exterior indications-though very convincing and at times correct-don’t necessary depict proper health, as disease may manifest itself in various ways.

One strong indication of disease is always stench, as a result, if you suffer from bad breath or as is Medically diagnosed, halitosis, this is a sign that you need to make some drastic dietetic changes or undergo a cleanse to curb this unpleasant occurrence.

Using toothpastes (especially the controversial and hazardous fluorinated ones), mints and chewing-gums to curb bad breath, like any artificial drug for any disease, doesn’t cure this ailment but only masks its symptoms temporarily-only for it to come back in full force. This explains why we as humans become addicted to all sorts of unnatural and oft time hazardous substances ranging from pain killers to alcohol.

The necessary and very effective measures one should take in eliminating bad breath are the following (you can trust this author who even upon waking up doesn’t have the so-called ‘morning breath’, falsely and commonly accepted as being natural…nothing my friends could be further from the truth!)

1. Make a change in your diet; for as is known in every culture known to man; “You are what you eat!” Hippocrates- the Father of Medicine once said: “Let your foods be your medicine and your medicines your food”, well ‘what should I eat?’ the uninformed might ask: Plain and simple: alkaline forming/mucus binding foods also known as, you guessed it right (if you’ve read my other articles elsewhere) Fruits and Vegetables.

One common indication of disease besides stench is always mucus and this is introduced into the body by only one means, what you consume, therefore all measures should be taken to eat the foods that not only nourish you but have the added ability and benefit of being able to bind and eradicate the excessive mucus.

I am not trying to be a pro-vegan or vegetarian (heck I’ve smelled bad breath and strong body odor on the most blindly fanatical of both kinds of people before) but, from experiments and being a nature lover, all vegetarian animals-free of human captivity or at least allowed to eat their natural diets (for examples the grazing cattle who consume only grass) DO NOT have any bad breath.

For a good example of a suggested daily menu plan, look for my article on ‘How to get rid of Acne in 10 days’ on this site as space is a constricting factor at this time.

2. Practice basic natural oral hygiene. As I indicated in the core e-book of my site, practitioners of Yoga such as the hard-core ones in India, Africa and even here in the USA know of such ancient techniques of cleansing the body that-though not as necessary for the beginner-are very, very effective for eliminating bad breath.

Type “kunjar kriya” up in Google and read what this process is. Being an advanced technique that must be practiced under supervision, a simple and less repugnant (if you think) process will be:

-Brushing the teeth with a toothbrush and pure all natural un-iodized Sea-salt or using an African Chewing stick or even a firm toothbrush exclusively. I always get compliments on my dentition and smile and besides my mother’s genes (if I may be so vain) using one of these methods has proven to me to be the safer and more effective methods of dental hygiene as outlined in chapter 11 of the text mentioned elsewhere in this article.

-Massage the gums with your clean index fingers. This essential practice strengthens the gums and cleans out impurities from its pores.

-After this; join the index, middle and ring fingers and massage the back of the tongue thoroughly for the same purpose.

-When you are done with these two procedures, scrape the tongue thoroughly with a tongue scraper designed exclusively for this or a blunt bread-knife. Intermittently, between all the steps above, you should rinse the mouth with warm saline water and ensure to gargle with this solution upon completion.

As you may have observed from the steps above (and in most of my articles) alleviating the symptom of a discomfort such as bad breath is mostly a two-part procedure: A drastic change in the diet (internal) and natural cleansing procedures/exercises (external). To complete the three limbs of Naturopathy, your positive and open-minded approach in reading this article takes care of the positive thinking aspect.

It never ceases to amaze me how the population so naively accepts mere fads, hyped products and so called drugs to eradicate the myriad of our modern day ailments, but take it from a guy who suffered (note the PAST tense) from asthma, acne, bad breath and depression for a long length of time, most if not all common diseases of this age can and will be things of the past if some basic all-natural methods such as the steps above for bad breath are applied.

How many embarrassing situations have you experienced in your life because of having bad breathe?
When one have bad breath, there are a lot of things in life that he/she are unable to enjoy, like close contact with a loved one and even the taste of their food. Many of us know that Bad Breath is a common condition that affects one in four people but the good news is that there is a cure and bad breath can be treated effectively.

There are many causes of bad breath including oral bacteria, foods, smoking, dentures, and dry mouth. Each of these different causes of bad breath will be related to either chronic or short-term bad breath and can be treated by any of the following remedies:

The first thing you should do when you realize that foul odor is emanating from your mouth is to make an appointment with the dentist to have a complete and thorough cleaning. Once this is done, you can speak to the oral hygienist that is doing the cleaning for tips and advice to help to cure bad breath and keep your mouth as clean as when it is professionally done.

To eliminate Oral bacterial the number one cause of chronic bad breath, which lives in your mouth and seems to favor the tongue as one of its favorite hiding spots, you should keep in mind the regular brushing and flossing of your teeth and regular brushing or scraping of your tongue. . If you cannot take good care of your teeth, then you probably do not really want to cure your bad breath.

Foods such as onions and garlic can cause short-term bad breath and it is recommended that you eat a sprig of parsley, cloves, fennel seeds or peppermint to mask the odor. Eating avocado can help many people to ease the chronic bad breath that ails them and everybody around them, but not eating too much avocado. If you eat a lot of meat and very little fresh fruits and vegetables, that could be to blame for your bad breathe. Eating more fresh food and less protein is a great bad breath remedy that really works for many people

Having a dry mouth leads to bad breath and if you do not drink enough water, chances are that your bad breath is due to the lack of moisture in your mouth, so be sure to check that out. It is important to drink enough water for many reasons but bad breath is only one of them

In order to prevent the risk of mouth and gum disease and bad breath caused by smoking, which causes chronic bad breathe from the smell of the tobacco and because it leaves your gums and teeth prone to gum disease, it is recommended that you quit smoking.

Finally, finding an effective cure for bad breath can be liberating for you. When you have eliminated bacteria from your mouth, you will be able to exude confidence when talking to people because you know that you have found a cure for bad breath that works.

So you know that you have bad breath, and want to find a way to relieve it simply and quickly? The following bad breath cures work in the majority of cases, though if you have a really bad case or these cures make no difference, you should consult your physician.

Bad breath is associated with a dry mouth, so taking steps to not have such a dry mouth can reduce the smell.
- Make sure that you drink sufficient quantities of water so that you’re not generally dehydrated.
- Dieting or missing can reduce saliva and dry the mouth, so be sure to eat at regular intervals.
- Chew on special sugar-free gum, to cause salivation.
- Don’t drink excessive alcohol as that dries the mouth.
- Smoking dries the mouth, and is also bad for a number of other well known reasons.

Bad breath also has a component that comes from lack of hygiene.
- Teeth should be brushed after every meal Be sure to be thorough and remove all the food particles.
- While you’re brushing your teeth, brush also the roof of your mouth and your tongue, using regular toothpaste, as this will help to clean adverse compounds.
- You should also floss between the teeth at least once a day, to dislodge any entrapped particles.

What you eat can cause troubles for various reasons.
- Eat a low-fat diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
- Avoid too much meat and protein, as the protein is fuel for the bacteria which cause bad breath.
- Avoid particular smelly foods, such as garlic and onions. When these get to the stomach, the smell transfers to the bloodstream, and the air you breath out picks up the smell from the lungs.

Visit your dentist to discuss the matter. Bad breath may be caused by dental problems, including gum disease (periodontal disease), and your dentist will be able to advise, and may save you more pain and expense in the long run. You should visit your dentist regularly, at least once every six months, for a regular checkup and cleaning. This will dig out the stubborn food particles that your brushing and flossing have missed.

You can use a mouthwash for temporary relief of the bad breath smell. Be aware, however, that many mouthwashes have alcohol content, which is detrimental. If you seek temporary relief by sucking a breath mint, like Altoids, you should also note that the high sugar content is a disadvantage.

There are not many embarrassing moments in life than having bad breath. People are the entire time alert for the one bad breath remedy that can cure them and sort things instantly out for them, however bad breath remedies are not simple to discover.

If you are on guard for the bad breath remedy that will work out for you, the best location to begin is absolutely the medical physician. Your physician will give you more information on what sort of bad breath remedy is good for you, and provide much more solid advice than anyone else out there as they recognize the details of your body better than anybody else. As backup, here is a bad breath remedy or two for your own private use. Whether or not they work for you is up to you, however it is essential to check that you are doing everything you can to locate the right bad breath remedy for yourself, to ensure that you are able to have close encounters with people in a relaxed way.

Have More Water!

The favorite cause of bad breath, apart from ignoring properly to brush and floss teeth is a dry mouth. When you do not drink enough water, it is possible that your bad breath is due to the lack of moisture in your mouth, so make sure to check that out. It is essential to drink enough water for many reasons but bad breath is just one of them.

If drinking more water is not something you can achieve, you will need to try eating more fruit. Fruit is a good source of water and an excellent way to acquire extra water in the body. This is also a fine way of changing your diet to cure your bad breath as well, which leads to another bad breath remedy.

Alter the Way You Eat

If you consume a lot of animal protein and not much fresh fruits and vegetables, that is to blame for your bad breath. Having more fresh food and less protein is a good bad breath remedy that actually works for many, particularly those who already brush and floss on a standard basis and do not appear to have a problem drinking enough water or getting sufficient moisture into the body.

Get rid of the steak and go for a salad. It is a bad breath remedy, and one that works. Just try it and see. Bad breath is easier to cure than you think.

Bad breath comes with bacteria and bacteria brings infection, to eliminate this problem, it is important that you brush your teeth and tongue after every meal. Not doing this can cause sensitive points to appear on the teeth surface resulting in cavities.

Cavities lead to serious problems, but how do they actually form? The teeth exterior is covered with firm enamel made of mineralized fascicles. This surface is coated by an acid substance that infiltrates between the fascicles while eating. Bacteria are now settled in your mouth and unfortunately so too is the bad breath.

Fluoride toothpastes, mouthwash or drinkable water that contain flour are a great source for solving dental problems. You should test the water you usually consume and find out its flour concentration. If the amount of flour found is not adequate, doctors can prescribe a medical treatment, which mimics the same effects, otherwise, the problem of tooth decay and cavities may become serious. Mouthwash, special medicine drops or even tablets can end the teeth damage process.

If you think you are developing cavities, see your dentist as soon as possible. Superficial cavities will eventually deepen, reaching into the root of the tooth and causing the pulp to become infected. A dental abscess may then appear causing you to suffer great pain and bad breath due to the tooth being surrounded by a smelly pus bag.

Pus appears because the body starts producing antibodies to fight the infection. Bacteria will spread infection in the tissue surrounding the tooth and consequently spread an annoying bad smell in your mouth.

Your breath will become unbearable because the gums affected can deviate from the tooth and the space between them can collect particles of the food that you eat which can later form bacteria. A dental abscess can also seriously affect the bone tissue surrounding the teeth.

Some of the symptoms to look out for are throbbing toothaches, especially during eating, red or swollen gums, fever or a bad taste in your mouth. You may also notice a tooth color change to grey or pink.

A bulge on the gum near the tooth can form and a considerable amount of yellow pus or blood may ooze from the red, bulging zone.

As the infection spreads the ache may decrease and this is the effect of bone tissue dissolution. When losing this tissue the tooth is poorly fixed and may be dislodged. A medical exam is mandatory in this situation.

A dentist may inspect the oral cavity to identify the swollen gums or other infection signs that suggest a dental abscess. A dental radiography may also be necessary. The dentist will make an informed decision on what antibiotics should be used to eliminate the infection. They may also need to make an incision on the upper or backside of the tooth to drain the infection. If necessary, they can also make an incision on the bulging zone to drain the infection.

I think we will all agree after reading the above that regular dental checkups are necessary to save us from the embarrassment of bad breath and the excruciating pain of an infected tooth.

Although you may want to consult your physician if you have a particular problem with bad breath, the following general advice will give you insight into the likeliest cause of a bad breath problem.

The principal bad breath cause is associated with bacteria in the mouth. This can flourish when the saliva flow in the mouth is reduced. Lack of saliva means that old food is not washed away, and saliva also helps in neutralizing acids. Saliva also performs the very necessary task of flushing out the mouth, and removing food particles, so any reduction in saliva flow inhibits this action.

Saliva can be reduced for a number of reasons. There are natural causes of this reduction, and other causes related to disease or choices. The flow of saliva reduces naturally as we get older, making us more prone to bad breath. Also when we are dehydrated, the moisture in the mouth reduces naturally. Often when asleep, people will have their mouths open, maybe even snoring, and this will dry out the mouth. This contributes to the “morning breath” syndrome.

Certain diseases and illnesses can similarly contribute to bad breath. Any infection that affects the respiratory tract can be a cause of bad breath, as well as many other diseases.

Dry mouth can also be caused by medications for various problems. The most common is probably the antihistamine, taken to relieve allergies. Some others include high blood pressure and depression medicines. Other things that can be ingested that affect the dryness of the mouth include alcohol and mouthwashes that contain alcohol.

One of the many problems associated with cigarette smoking is dry mouth. For many reasons unrelated to bad breath, it is wise to avoid smoking, as has been documented extensively elsewhere. With a predisposition to bad breath, however, the habit of smoking virtually guarantees that you will suffer from bad breath.

It is no good to think that the bacteria causing bad breath may be generally eliminated, as they are naturally occurring and required for bodily function. They are anaerobic, which means “without oxygen”. As saliva provides oxygen the lack of saliva with a dry mouth makes a more favorable environment for the bacteria to increase, aggravating the bad breath.

The bacteria create sulfurous compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide (the bad egg smell) which are the cause of the smelly breath. The bacteria assist in the digestive process by starting the breakdown of proteins. Thus another cause of bad breath would be a high protein diet, which feeds the bacteria.

So what are the causes of bad breath exactly?

Bad breath, which is usually halitosis, is caused by VSCs (Volatile Sulphur Compounds) in the mouth, these are the most common of the causes of bad breath. But what are they, anyway?

Bacteria in your throat and mouth help to break down certain proteins. When some Amino acids which have a lot of Sulphur inside, start to get broken down and then produce various foul smelling compounds from the back of the mouth and throat.

There is a common misconception that bad breath can come from your stomach, and although it may feel like that sometimes, the smeel comes from the compounds produced your throat and mouth. Some foods however after they have been consumed encourage the production of certain chemicals that are then discharged via the lungs. So that extra helping of deep-fried onion rings is actually making a smell through your lungs.

So how can we avoid these great causes of bad breath?

Well many of the causes of bad breath are things that we take for granted and use everyday. Most toothpastes can be a cause of bad breath because the stuff that makes the foam actually promotes production of VSCs.

A dry tongue can also be a cause of bad breath. The bacteria that produce those nasty SVCs actually don’t like oxygen, so a dry mouth is perfect and hence becomes a cause of bad breath.

The nasty stuff from the bacteria comes from the breakdown of Amino acids, which are found in protein. So high protein foods can be a cause of bad breath, even a generally high protein diet could be one of the causes of bad breath.

Once you have elevated levels of the bacteria in your throat, it becomes very difficult to fight off the bad breath as those bacteria can use anything to be the next trigger for your bad breath. By successfully reducing the amount of bacteria in your throat you can make sure that it becomes that much more difficult to get the bad breath in the first place.

You literally zap the cause of bad breath at its source.

So one of the causes of bad breath are those things that allow the bacteria to produce more SVCs, so avoid or treat these and you will rid yourself of your cause of bad breath. Otherwise hit at the source and reduce those bacteria.

There are specific reasons that there may be problem of bad breath in children. There are several factors which may influence the production of bad breath, and some of these are particularly likely to be found in children.

Depending on their age, children can have a habit of putting things up their noses, which may become lodged and lead to bad breath. It’s not unusual for children to poke small objects into their mouths and noses. If there is a suspicion of this, it is probably best to allow a doctor to probe and remove the foreign object. There may be an indicator of this activity if there is a discharge from the nose. It’s also been reported that small swallowed objects can become lodged in the passages and cause bad breath.

The habit of oral hygiene needs to be instilled in children while they are growing up. It’s fairly well established that children are not necessarily fastidious in keeping their teeth and mouths clean, and the presence of old food may provide a good breeding ground for the bacteria that cause decomposition and smelly breath. Children should always be encouraged and taught to maintain the highest standards of oral hygiene, as this is a habit that they will carry with them through their lives.

When considering a case of chronic bad breath in children, the usual factors that create the problem in adults should not be ignored. These would include dry mouth, which creates an environment conducive to the bacteria flourishing. While it should be expected that children would not be so prone to bad breath from chewing tobacco, or from drinking alcohol, they are more prone to diseases that affect the saliva glands, and to getting respiratory or throat and mouth infections. These in themselves may cause direct odor, and they will also aggravate the problem by causing mouth breathing and drying out.

Post nasal drip is a particular problem found in young children which can cause bad breath. The bacteria causing the smelly breath tend to be at home on the back of the tongue, and this is exactly where the nasal drip concentrates. The nasal drip itself is a chemical compound that is reported from research to act as a fuel to the bacteria. It contains protein made up of amino acids that are broken down to hydrogen sulfide and other smells.

If it appears that your child has a persistent bad breath problem, it would be wise to consult your physician for assistance in diagnosing and curing the issue.

Bad breath(Halitosis)is widespread and quite common. You have probably discretely stepped away from friends or colleagues with bad breath. But it can also be a shock to realize that others, for the same reason, may be edging (discretely) away from you!

How can you know if your breath is offensive?

Try this simple bad breath(Halitosis)test:
Lick the inside of your wrist and wait 4 seconds. Now smell your wrist. If you don’t like what smell, your breath does not smell good either. Easy, no? An accurate and portable diagnosis!

What causes bad breath?

· Not enough water in your body, dehydration.
· Gum or tooth problems/ disease
· Intestinal/ stomach disorders, yeast infection
· Use of medications
· Stress

Remedies for Bad Breath (Halitosis)

1. Water – yes, water! Many people suffer from chronic dehydration because they don’t drink drink the 8-12 glasses of water a day that the body needs. This common form of dehydration causes much common bad breath. You can improve your breath – and give a big lift to your health – simply by drinking enough water.

2. Recently eaten food that hasn’t been brushed out can quickly smell bad. The “cure” then is to simply brush or floss. For gum disease and decay you must visit your dentist. And for improved oral hygiene, put a few drops of Oil of Oregano on your toothbrush or to swish it in your mouth as a mouthwash. Did you know that Oil of Oregano is antibacterial/ anti viral/ anti fungus and anti parasite? It seeks out these health impediments everywhere in the body. At the first signs of infection, Oil of Oregano is your great first line of defense.

3. For disturbed digestion you should see your doctor. But for mild problems such as GERD and acid reflux, take probiotics in the form acidophilus or kefir. For worse stomach problems try ¼ cup of Aloe vera before breakfast. Do this for at least 3 weeks. For my friend Peter this completely healed his stomach ulcer! Most GERD are related to the H pylori, which is a bacteria found in meats that haven’t been thoroughly cooked. If you like your meat rare, take Oil of Oregano on a regular basis as a preventive measure.

3. When you are under too much stress your digestive system doesn’t circulate enough oxygen (the energy goes into a fight or flight mode). This makes your digestive tract a breeding ground for the wrong bacteria – and for bad breath as well. Be sure to introduce deep, relaxed breathing throughout your busy day.

4. Eat raw parsley, chew on anise seed or cardamom, nutmeg or fennel – they’re natural breath fresheners that don’t just mask odors, but actually freshen the breath.

5. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruit and whole grains; avoid white flour products like white bread and pastas, as well as sugared juices and sodas.

5. You may have an undetected yeast infection. Find out for yourself by performing a simple self-test for yeast/candida overgrowth.

6. Chew your food well and do not drink fluids with your food. Take no food two hours before bedtime and try to not take food for 12 hours after dinner.

7. Eliminate as often as you can. Try to have three bowel movements a day. If you need some help, try 4 ounces of prune juice with 4 ounces of magnesium citrate. (My R.N. friend Marie calls this “The Bomb”.) For more help try 2000 mg. of vitamin C with electrolytes every hour. Do this for 4 hours or more, until you start to have loose stools. (This also works well for headaches and boosts your immune system.

8. Drink at least 2 cups of kefir a day. This helps your intestinal flora regain its natural balance of bacteria.

Remember – fresh, clean breath is a reflection of good health, and health is an ongoing process. Stick with it! Follow my suggestions, and keep a log of what you do and the effects you see. This simple tracking process can help you pinpoint what is truly effective. You will be inspired by your own success!
